Mike Hayes

Web Developer

Drawing on many years of experience and a strong background in software systems architecture, I specialise in delivering effective, user-friendly solutions to complex requirements for a diverse range of businesses both here in the UK and farther afield.

Background / Experience

I started out with a career as an aerospace systems engineer, initially specialising in computational fluid dynamics/aerodynamics, with a brief side-step into the development of robotic control software, before moving into a lead engineer role in flight simulation software. After 16 years in that field I made a life-change in 2011, leveraging a long-time side-interest of coding for the web, combined with all the years of professional experience, to work full time on developing a freelance career focusing solely on web development.

Since then the majority of my work has come via word of mouth referrals/recommendations, and I've never stopped being busy which feels like a terrific endorsement of my professional approach to projects and client relations. The variety of projects and enjoyable client relationships continues to sustain my technical interest and desire to continue developing my skills.

Currently Working On...

I'll update this site with some proper case studies when I get a chance. One of the ironies about being busy is that's never an opportunity to spend time maintaining my own profile. However here's a quick run down of what I'm building at this moment:

  1. A large cloud application project for a manufacturer of medical devices

The platform connects systems across the UK and provides tools for systems design, configuration, servicing, management, and monitoring plus client-facing tools for call monitoring, live and historical reporting, and configuring user options. Built in PHP and javascript with a number of interfaces to storage repositories such as Cosmos DB and Azure containers.

  2. Bespoke integrated e-commerce and ePoS system

A long term client in Canada with complex requirements, having failed to find a suitable off-the-shelf solution, has asked for an integrated, bilingual platform to support e-commerce and PoS. The ecommerce system was deployed in 2023, ePoS build is underway. It's built with Laravel, Tailwind, and AlpineJs.
